Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and spent her entire childhood living in Chicago. Amy was a part of her family in Chicago while she was in junior high. Her parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy has two sisters, Betsy and Lori, as well as a brother Joe. Amy has traveled all over Europe both on her own as well as with her family. Because her parents were teachers, they were able to travel together every summer, and camping throughout the United States. In fact, they have spent time camping in every state other than Alaska. Amy was in Rwanda to aid in relief efforts following the war of 1994. Amy was a gifted artist from the beginning when she was acting in school productions, and winning writing contests. In high school she was an accomplished athlete who was a part of the very first 3200 meter relay in the Illinois girls track. Following an injury, she returned to school and was a part of the stage, beginning with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July” and later directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Daniel and Lemon”. Amy has graduated from Knox College in Galesburg (Illinois) in the year of cum laude, with an A.A. in East Asian history and a concentration in Theater. Following graduation, she relocated to Chicago where she studied Improv at the Improv Olympics and Acting at The Actor's Center. An acting contract on the now defunct soap drama Another World (1964) moved her to NYC soon after graduation. She has been nominated for an Daytime Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Supporting Actress in the category of Daytime Drama Series". Her most memorable roles included those of strong women, such as Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler as her husband, and is the bassist for Les Savy Fav. She also runs Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and works as a part-owner. Amy continues to write and look for unique and diverse roles in the film industry.
