Thora Birch

Thora Birch (born March 11, 1982) is an American producer and actress. Her first film role was in Purple People Eater (1988) and she won the Young Artist Award for "Best Young Artistress under nine years old". Birch was a big star when she was an infant, appearing in films like All I Want for Christmas (1991), Patriot Games (92), Hocus Pocus (93), Monkey Trouble (1994), Now and Then (1995) and Alaska (1996). In 1999 she was nominated for a BAFTA nomination. She then starred as Enid in the critically acclaimed Ghost World (2001), earning a nomination for the Golden Globe for Best Actress. In 2003, Birch received an Emmy Award nomination for her role in the lead role in Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story. Other films she has appeared in include Dungeons & Dragons (2000), The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006), Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009), and Petunia (2012).After taking an absence from acting, Birch returned to her acting career in the year 2016 and has since starred in a variety of independent films. Birch was also a part of Whisperer Mary as well as Gamma on Season 10 of The Walking Dead (2019-2020). Birch was the eldest of children born to Jack Birch (and Carol Connors) in Los Angeles. Birch her family, which originally included the surname Biersch is German-Jewish as well as Scandinavian. Birch also has French-Canadian, French, and Italian ancestral roots.  The name of her mother, Thora, is derived from that of Norse god of thunder and lightning "Thor" which could be her name should she had been a young boy. She is the younger sister of Kian Bolt Birch.Birch's parents are former adult film actors who both played in the movie Deep Throat. They were reluctant to encourage Thora due to their past experience in the entertainment industry. However, a babysitter noticed Thora mimicking commercials and encouraged them to show her image to agents. Birch was four years old when she got her first big break when the babysitter took her to audition for a Quaker Oats advertisement.
